Spring 2019

Our mission is to allocate grants and fund projects for animal rescues, support organizations that lower euthanasia rates in animal shelters and help families keep their pets during times of hardship that would otherwise force pets into the shelters.

Brownie and Shadi, pictured above in this edition's photo feature, are just two of the six fospice animals taken in by Filomena Farms thus far. We've partnered with Farah Ravon of One Planet Rescue, Georgia Postlewait via Nine Lives Foundation, and Wrich Printz in order to bring these deserving seniors peace in their final days. Filomena Farms thanks them wholeheartedly for their compassionate efforts.

Happy Spring, Filomena Farmers! We are excited to share our very first edition of Farm Mail with you! We've been hard at work on the Farm and want to keep you in the loop on every seed we sow, so look for Farm Mail on a quarterly basis and watch our local animals reap the fruit of our collective labor!

Fospice on the Farm
  • One of the main branches of Filomena Farms’s focus - and possibly the effort held closest to heart - is “fospice” care. Fospice is a coined term the animal rescue community uses to describe the special act of fostering an animal near the end of its life.
Fundraising
We would like to personally thank you for making our work possible. Our fundraising goal this year is $5,000. We have reached approximately 11% of that goal.
  • Your generosity allows us to look beyond the challenges of the lack of funding for small- to medium-sized nonprofit animal rescue organizations and dedicate our full effort and heart into positive outcomes for the pets we serve together. We are deeply humbled and privileged to be part of animal rescue in San Jose, California --the community that is in the center of our vision and mission.
Succulent Workshops
  • Spring has sprung and our DIY succulent planting events supporting Filomena Farms have officially begun! We had our dress rehearsal to shake out the thorns and now we are ready to open registration to YOU! Want to test your green thumb and create something beautiful under the guidance of seasoned gardeners, all for the benefit of local animal rescue? Round up a group of 10 and just let us know when! All materials provided. Advanced registration required.
Honey from the Hood
  • What's that buzzing sound? It's Honey from the Hood flying off the shelves! Filomena Farms's bees are working overtime to help support animal rescue...guess what? We just discovered additional honey output - a surprise second harvest! Strengthen your immune system against local allergens, help save our local honeybee population, AND contribute to our grant fund for local animal rescue groups - ALL by making a suggested $10 donation for Honey from the Hood!
Filomena Farmers
  • If you're an animal advocate and want to make an impact in San Jose's animal welfare community, then Filomena Farms wants YOU! We have an array of opportunities available.
    • We need VOLUNTEERS for fundraising events - submit our volunteer application and we'll be in touch!
    • We need to fill a few BOARD positions: Treasurer, Social Media Director, and Events Coordinator. If interested, please email resume and cover letter to contact@filomenafarms.org
  • Aren't able to volunteer at this time? You can still help. Please assist us in spreading the good word about Filomena Farms. Share our website and social media tag, #filomenafarmssj with your friends and family.
Special Mentions
  • We'd like to give the Founding Farmers a special pat on the back for their commitment to Filomena Farms this first quarter. Turning Filomena's vision into reality took serious dedication and hard work, but our team did it! We're proud of each other and thankful for our extraordinary bond.
Upcoming Events
  • DOGA-You know what yoga is and you know what dogs are...so what happens when you combine the two? Big time zen, that's what! Dogs' company causes humans to release more "happy" hormones like serotonin and oxytocin, which relieves stress and carries health benefits. Yoga helps increase endorphins and improve overall health and wellness - so DOGA is basically doubling down on the "feel goods"! DOGA is coming soon to Filomena Farms, so grab your best four-legged friend and get ready to strengthen both your core AND your bond! BIG thanks to Christopher Elliman for our logo and poster designs!
  • Friends on the Farm 2019 - We are excited to announce that Filomena Farms will host one extra special event annually: Friends on the Farm! This will be a contest-driven opportunity; we will hold a public vote deciding which of our animal rescue partners wins a fundraising fete on the Farm. More details to come...get excited!

Reina never knew veterinary care; judgment and opinions aside, Filomena Farms's friend, Wrich Printz, stepped in to help this girl’s cause. After raising over $3,000 for vet attention, Reina got the maintenance treatment she needed and continued to show her undying spirit and love for life. She exuded compassion and joy until her last day at Filomena Farms.
