grant recipients

Filomena Farms is appreciative of the support we've received from the community of volunteers and donors. Every donation goes directly to the allocation of grants to fund projects for small to medium-sized animal rescues, supporting organizations that lower euthanasia rates in animal shelters and helping families keep their pets during times of hardship that would otherwise force pets into the shelters.
As Filomena Farms continues to grow, we hope to add even more grant opportunities for small and medium sized rescue organizations. Please read on to discover more about our grant recipients over the years. We are so excited to help hard-working animal welfare groups like these. We thank them for their tireless efforts and for making possible our mission to support organizations that strive to lower euthanasia rates and keep pets in their homes. Congratulations to each of our wonderful grant recipients!

summer 2021 Filomena Farms Foundation Grants

Picture"Emma", a GDR ambassa-dog
It is our distinct pleasure as the Board of Directors of Filomena Farms to name the following organizations as the recipients of our Summer 2021 Foundation Grants:

Filomena’s Favorite: Four Paws to Love
This is Four Paws to Love's second Filomena Farms Foundation grant. They have been named "Filomena's Favorite" BOTH times! In 2020 we lauded their successful adoption events. This year we're doubly impressed; not only has Four Paws to Love managed to continue adoption events *safely* throughout COVID-19, but each and every one of their adoptions during this time has "stuck". Not a single adopted pet returned, despite the turmoil of COVID! In recognition of their diligence and commitment to responsible placement, clearly underscoring their focus on “giving each adopter and animal the personal touch needed to make a lifelong match”, we are delighted to award their organization $1,000.00.

Dulcinea's Distinction:
GEPDA Rescue US

GEPDA (Group Education to Protect and Defend Animals) has tackled many difficult rescue cases with tremendous grace during their almost 20 years of operation. Although they're an all-breed rescue, GEPDA has a deep passion for Rottweilers. Their dedication to one of the many breeds society often labels as "dangerous" or "intimidating" is inspirational. GEPDA puts a great deal of energy into training and humane education, as well. To thank them for their commitment to Rotties (which hold a special place in our hearts at Filomena Farms - see the story on Xena, a GEPDA alum, on our fospice page!) and to help them rebuild after suffering a terrible fire, we are delighted to award GEPDA a grant in the amount of $750.00.

Petrociño’s Prize: Grateful Dogs Rescue

Grateful Dogs takes on cases of all sizes, and we mean both the size of the dog AND the size of the financial commitment! As the oldest all-breed rescue organization in San Francisco, this group has excellent relationships with so many of the Bay Area's animal control facilities. They aren't afraid to don their hero capes and advocate for those at highest risk of euthanasia, many of which are Chihuahuas and Pit Bulls. From surgical intervention to behavior modification training and everything in between, Grateful Dogs champions dogs who were not candidates for shelter adoption and gives them a shot at life through rescue. For their commitment to second chances for underdogs, we are pleased to award Grateful Dogs Rescue $500.00.

2021 Filomena Farms Spring Foundation Grant

Recipient: Pawdyguard Rescue
Pawdyguard Rescue's efforts in the Salinas area and neighboring communities speak for themselves. Their commitment to around-the-clock rescue, outreach work during the 2020 River Wildfires, and dedication to bottle-fed kitten support are especially impressive. In recognition of these commendable endeavors, we are delighted to award Pawdyguard Rescue a grant in the amount of $1,000.00.

2020 Board Merit Award

PictureNiko of Hope for Animals International
Recipient: Hope for Animals International
Little Niko is a longterm foster dog under the care of Hope for Animals International. He has an irreversible spinal condition that leaves him with hind limb paralysis. We became aware of Niko’s need for an orthopedic bed and a special harness that helps his caretakers gently assist his mobility. We had to help! Niko is the very first recipient of our Board Merit Award and his grant in-kind totaled about $120.00.

WINTER 2020/2021 fILOMENA'S wISH hOLIDAY gRANT

PictureBuhita of Heading Home Animal Rescue
Recipient: Heading Home Animal Rescue
Heading Home Animal Rescue's commitment to a sickly kitten named Buhita is inspirational and heartbreaking. Sadly, this year's holiday grant became an "in memorium" award, as Buhita passed away before receiving life-saving surgery to correct a vascular defect. Regardless of this tragedy, we know that Heading Home will use this grant to continue their efforts and to help others like Buhita. It is an honor to extend the 2020/2021 Filomena’s Wish grant to Heading Home Animal Rescue in memory of Buhita for the amount of $300.00.

It is our distinct pleasure as the Board of Directors of Filomena Farms to name the following organizations as the recipients of our 2020 Foundation Grants:

Filomena’s Favorite:
Four Paws to Love
Four Paws to Love's working relationships with local animal control facilities is commendable. We are impressed by their partnership with a local small business for adoption events; it is clear that their team strives to create and maintain synergistic relationships within the community. In recognition of their commitment to “giving each adopter and animal the personal touch needed to make a lifelong match”, we are delighted to award their organization $1,000.00.

Dulcinea’s Distinction:
 South County Tail Waggers
South County Tail Waggers' “we have to do more” approach to rescue is truly inspirational. They reach beyond the trench work of rescue and dive headlong into the community as evidenced by their Community Influence program and their spay/neuter clinic initiative. They say it takes a village to make a difference and their team is certainly working hard to form the village required to do so for animals in need, both through education and example. In recognition of their efforts, we are delighted to award their organization $500.00.

Petrociño’s Prize: Every Pet’s Dream
Every Pet’s Dream clearly pours heart and soul into each case advocated. The heart can often easily be pushed into the background when faced with the countless lives in need we see every day in animal welfare. We thank them for  never tiring, for never growing cold, and for always sharing their warmth with those who need it most. In recognition of their commitment to ensuring peace and comfort to animals in their final days through their Forever Care Program, we are delighted to award their organization $250.00.

PictureRenegade Transport
It is our distinct pleasure as the Board of Directors of Filomena Farms to name the following organizations as the recipients of our 2019 Foundation Grants:

Filomena’s Favorite: 11th Hour K9 Rescue, Rehab, and Rehome
11th Hour K9 Rescue, Rehab and Rehome is recognized for their commitment to what we view as “complete package” rescue work, that is undertaking training and behavior modification in addition to driving a responsible adoptions program, we are delighted to award the organization $300.00.

Dulcinea’s Distinction:
Renegade Animal Welfare & Rescue
We are tremendously grateful for Renegade Animal Welfare & Rescue’s efforts in the Bay Area community; there is so much more to rescue than adoptions. As recognition of their commitment to what we view as “behind the scenes” rescue work, that is undertaking public education, vaccine clinics, and TNR programs in addition to long distance transport and owner/family support, we are delighted to award the organization $250.00.

Petrociño’s Prize:
Community Cat Allies
As recognition of Community Cat Allies’ commitment to championing feral cats’ autonomy while driving the importance of TNR and vaccinations, we are delighted to award the organization $200.00.
